Certainly the most distinctive landmark of the whole Apollo Coast, or Athens Riviera, the Temple of Poseidon stands bearing the signs of time but still impressive on the top of Cape Sounion. This where the Saronic Sea merges with the Aegean Sea. If the sky is clear you can spot some of the closes Cycladic island, and certainly Kea island. After or before climbing up to the Temple, there are few places you may want to stop by for a refreshing swim. One is the small shore by Ag. Petros church, right next to the sea, where archaeologists place the ancient Sounion settlement and cemetery. Then of course the main beach in front of Aegeon Hotel, right below the Cape, where you will also find a couple of decent fish taverns. Lastly, small coves on the Eastern side that you will need to discover on foot.
