You will be comfortably picked-up in the morning at your hotel with a private car/ van and be greeted by our tour leader, who will offer you some details and practical information about your trip, including a sketch/ photo contest that will run during the whole trip. Within an hour approx. you will reach the archaeological site of ancient Corinth, where you will be also able to visit the small annexed museum (professional guided tour optional). Next, we will drive the hill up to reach the impressive Acrocorinth castle which is perched on a rock, offering stunning looks over the Corinthian Gulf. Later we will stop at a quaint sea tavern to sample Greek seafood at its best, near the ancient baths of beautiful Helen.
In the afternoon we will reach the picturesque seaside town of Nauplio, one of Greece’s must-sees and its first modern capital in the 19th century. You will have the chance to make your way through its squares and narrow alleys or enjoy a sea walk, shop at some artisans’ workshop or at some cozy boutiques. For those interested there will be the option of visiting the castle or taking a short city tour (at an extra cost). In the evening you can enjoy a dinner and drink in one of the many nice bars and restaurants in town (we can provide you with a selection of the best spots).
After a hearty breakfast you can enjoy a last brief walk in Nauplio town before heading to the countryside to meet a local olive oil producer. There you will learn all the secrets of this sacred tree from prehistory until today and taste fresh olive oil and various olive derivatives accompanied by delicious Greek small dishes.
Next we will drive to the archaeological site of Epidaurus, set amidst the lush Argolis pine forests, and one of the top destinations in Greece. Regarded as the birthplace of Western Medicine, due to the sanctuary of healer god Asclepius, it is part of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites (optional professional guided tour at extra cost). Walking around the archaeological site you will get the chance to see ruins of temples, the old stadium, baths, and of course the majestic theater, which still hosts theater plays in the summer.
Leaving Epidaurus, we will stop at the charming sea town of Palea Epidavros, where you will have some free time to spend enjoying a walk, swimming if hot weather and sample some more Greek food delicacies in a typical tavern. Later in the afternoon we will return to Athens (approx. 2 hours drive).
