Galazia Akti (or Cote d’Azur, in Greek) is of course totally different from its French counterpart, being a much rougher affair. It’s an area that developed rapidly in the fifties and sixties, when it became a popular summer destination and wealthy families built huge villas on the shore thanks to their connections with the elite at power. Now it has lost part of its attractiveness but the wide beach remains enticing. There are a couple of beach bars, beach volley courts where amateurs and former pros play all day long, and also an Indian-style hippie place at the southern end. Of course you will find vintage fish taverns here as well. The sand is thin and waters shallow and calm, which makes it a favorite destination among families.
