Our mythology astro tour is open to everyone, but it’s specially designed for our young friends and their families.
The tour will start from the Lysikratous Sq. in Plaka, where you will meet our mythology guide. You will have the chance to learn about Greek myths in a fun entertaining way while strolling in Plaka, the oldest and most picturesque neighborhood of the city.
You will learn about gods and heroes, their love stories, their quarrels. You’ ll hear myths about the creation of the city, while walking through secret alleys and courtyards, eventually ending up at the Athens National Observatory.
Founded in 1842 on the Hill of the Nymphs, the National Observatory is hosted in the historical Sinas main building with breathtaking views over the city of Athens. There, you will visit the historic astronomical library, learn about time measurement, navigation, the legendary and mysterious Antikythera mechanism and eventually observe the sky through the Doridis refracting telescope, built by the French company P.F. Gautier in 1902.
The whole experience is enhanced through a unique talk about the constellations and mythology offered by an astronomer (also available: the creation of the Moon, The giant gas planets, The Life of Stars) who will tell how Castor and Pollux went up in the sky, and other stories.
The end of the presentation will also be the end of your tour. The Athens night will call you for a nice walk or dinner in a nearby quaint Greek tavern.
